I am an independent education consultant specialising in working with young people with special needs and their families. I am able to work one to one with young people on aspects of their education, safeguarding and emotional welfare and am also able to support parents in navigating education for their child.
I have been working in education for over 20 years and qualified as a Special Education Needs Coordinator (SENCO) in 2019. As part of this role, I gained expert knowledge in the Education, Health, Care Plan (EHCP) system and how to support parents in ensuring their child receives the best education provision possible. I was the Designated Safeguarding Lead and Assistant Head at a special school for more than 10 years before becoming an independent consultant.
I have a diploma in Play Therapy and a certificate in Applied Therapeutic Skills. I am a member of The Complimentary Medical Association. I trained as an Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA) and have supported a variety of young people with special needs over the last 4 years to learn skills to be able to understand and control their own emotions. I am a Master Practitioner in NLP and qualified as a Life Coach in 2019. This enables me to support parents and pupils to review their goals and work on how to achieve them.
As a classroom teacher I have worked from early years to Key Stage 4 with a variety of programs including Attention Autism, Precision Teaching, TEACCH, Social Use of Language Program (SULP), Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS), Derbyshire Language Scheme, sensory stories, intensive interaction and AQA unit award scheme. I have worked with young people with Profound Multiple Learning Difficulties, Autism, Social Emotional Mental Health Difficulties, Global Developmental Delay and Blind Deaf pupils.
I presently work with families whose children are Educated Other Than At School (EOTAS) to advise and support them on aspects of education, safeguarding and joined up working with other agencies involved with the family. As well as creating an education plan and supporting those working directly with the young person to deliver it.
